Here’s another great article from the Mashable website on geo-tagging/location-based social media:

5 Things You Need to Know About Location-Based Social Media
by Kevin Nakao

Kevin Nakao is VP of Mobile & Business Search for WhitePages, a Top 40 Web and Mobile Publisher. You can find him on Twitter, and on the Whitepages Blog where he writes about mobile, local, and social media.

Geotagging to Market Your Business

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Geotagging is looking to become a strong player in marketing. What is Geotagging, you ask?  Here’s Wikipedia’s definition: “Geotagging is the process of adding geographical identification metadata to various media such as photographs, video, websites, or RSS feeds and is a form of geospatial metadata. These data usually consist of latitude and longitude coordinates, though they can also include altitude, bearing, accuracy data, and place names.”  More commonly, you might be familiar with geotagging from popular apps like Foursquare or Gowalla.  Here are a couple good articles on the geotagging marketing and how businesses are maximizing this trend:
