On today’s episode of From Hawaii With Love, you’ll meet three-time World Tandem Surfing Champion, Kalani Vierra. Listeners will hear about Kalani’s life as a Kauai lifeguard and waterman, how he and his daughter Ala just became the World Tandem Surfing Champs at the Duke Kahanamoku Surf Festival, and what it was like to appear on the last season of the MTV series, “Run’s House,” as the surf instructor for Reverend Run’s children, Diggy and Russy. Kalani will also play “Hawaii 5-Go,” a speed round of five fun questions and answer the question we ask all of our guests: what’s the best lesson Hawaii can teach the world?
Kalani Vierra has been an Ocean Safety Officer for the County of Kaua`i for 15 years. Since 2007, he has claimed the International Tandem Surfing Association’s title of World Tandem Surfing Champion. He and his daughter Ala recently were crowned as champions in the Duke Kahanamoku Surf Festival in Waikiki. Kalani was also named the Eddie Aikau Waterman of the Year in 2004 and with the Kaua`i Water Patrol, he provides private safety and lifeguarding services for water and ocean-based activities from television to movie and commercial filming. A true Hawaiian waterman, Kalani surfs, does Hawaiian outrigger canoe paddling, and enjoys stand up paddling. Kalani also recently appeared on the MTV series, “Run’s House,” as the surf instructor for Reverend Run’s children, Diggy and Russy.
